And you know, it's an off-mentioned topic on our show is inconsistencies in the English language, or how you should do about English. Uh but, anyways, yeah, so I mentioned Ben Franklin was behind robbing the OU from American English spelling, or words such as color. But it turns out it's a bit more complicated than that. So, without going too deep into the weeds, it was actually Noah Webster who pushed for removing the unnecessary U in an attempt for simpler spelling and a sense of, you know, national identity. Franklin actually invented and proposed a full phonetic alphabet and spelling system.

So others have tried to simplify English and have a consistently phonetic spelling with varying degrees of success, uh, which is one of the reasons why we have currently have a hodgepodge of spelling rules, some of which are logical, others not so much. Right. Yeah.

But like the the hodgepodge of of actually spelling and phonetical rules and grammar rules that were that was that's prevalent in most languages, is why uh for a while there they were really trying to push Esperanto as a universal language, uh, because it it doesn't have any of those things. Everything is very phonetically spelled, and there's there's no weird conjugations and all that stuff. And for a while, like the the American uh amateur radio club was pushing Esperanto to be the official language for ham operators. Uh but then of course, then of course, they you know, I guess it got too woke and they they jumped out of that. Uh American amateur radio club is full of mostly old right-wing uh Republican guys who've got a lot of things.

Now, here's something interesting, because I was just at um I I went to a food card pod here in Portland during during Pride a couple of weeks ago, and we were having a a question uh with the Middle Eastern guy about the proper way to say the word G Y R Oh you guys don't even know how to speak. Yeah, yes. It's either it's either they pronounce it gyro. Okay, but it's okay to say gyro because gyro is the Americanized version of the word, and it's also okay to say uh uh gyro as well. So so all three of those are absolutely okay by the middle agent. Gyro is the only one that's not correct. Uh gyro is something entirely different. That that is true, but gyro gyro uh uh gyro is what gyro is what they pronounce it as.

It is terrible to eat because it's way too bitter because it's 100% cacao. Yeah, but no preservatives, nothing in it.

Frozen mochi is yummy. The third one that we were waiting for the most was a Snickers one. A Snickers mochi. And I was like, oh, this is gonna be so good. And I bit into it and it exploded. It was all liquidy inside. For some reason, it didn't freeze right, and like it went everywhere. Like it was all over my hands. Luckily, I missed my shirt just by the embarrassed little bit. We had a little bit, we used it all. Yeah, we used all the wet wipes we had with us.

And I mean it's got the tongue hanging out and cross eyed, yeah, and and Hank's reading all the things that it's allergic to or stuff on the card in front. Yeah, and he flips it up and he says, Oh Lord, there's another page. So Lord Sheet. Watch the season premiere of Strange New Worlds. Oh, no spoilers, but wow, yeah. What what an excellent, excellent episode, I have to say. Uh, and they totally retconned the entire world universe just in one episode.

They're looking at the camera and saying, I just I just hate Stuart. He is my least favorite Big Bang character of all. Yeah, but I mean Kuther Polly comes back. So you know they had to pay him at least a million dollars an episode. Um guess he needed some extra cash. I don't know. So uh I'm still watching the it's and it's good to see some uh cool to see some old faces. Yeah. Uh also still watching the back episodes of Fring and Stargate Atlantis. I'm considering starting, or I should say, restarting Shits Creek, uh, but I'm not sure. And uh we're up to we're up to current on Rick and Morty, Spider-Man Noir, Silo, and Lestat.

There's a if you do a which episodes of Spider-Man Noir should I watch in color? Uh there's like a there's like a list that the director wrote that the ones that would be better in color. Uh so yeah, you skip between color and black and white, and it makes the watching experience supposedly better.

As much as I love Bill and Ted, there is no way Pelea would be caught dead with those two losers. No, I'm assuming. Like she might have gone somewhere with Rufus.

I I think they're off to a really good start this season, uh, but I did notice some minor story continuity errors that I'm sure were caused by Paramount canceling the program and selling off all the sets, props, and costumes. So doing reshoots to correct any continuity isn't really possible. So yeah, that kind of sucks because there were a couple spots I was like, wait a minute, ten seconds ago they were out of contact with the ship, and now they're in contact with the ship again? Mm-hmm. Uh that's the they didn't even like reference that they've you know regained contact with the ship. Yeah, so that was that was a little that was a little disappointing, uh to say the least. But uh you know, because I normally they are so put together on that show. Uh so it it kind of it kind of bummed me a little bit that they're being hemmed in because of Paramount's cancellation. Yeah, so but that's that's neither here nor there. There's nothing we can really do about it. But uh I started playing Overwatch again. I really like a couple of the new characters that have come out uh since I played a few months back. There's been like I think three new characters that have come out. Oh wow. Um they're all a little bit different. And uh one of them is an omnic who looks she looks like she's a robe one of the robot species, and she looks she looks really like an anime robot. Like not clunky like the other omnics in the series. Uh she's really cool looking, uh, she's got two guns, and she's really a badass. Uh she's fun, but still I'm I'm still a wrecking ball main because Hammond is just so cute. He's a hamster and a big hamster ball. So uh, I mean, how can you not like it? It's really cute.

He's in the military and he's the overseer of this thing, and he's like, you know, he he he taunts these people and stuff. It's like a very strange thing.

Um, and if anyone is wondering when they, you know, when they watch this if they watch this movie about these teenagers that are basically berating and cursing each other while also having quality bonding moments, it's exactly the same in the book.

So the walk the walk continues until there is nobody left, so to speak. And that could be 10 miles or well, over 300 miles, like it was that they ended up walking. It was over 300. But there's an interesting twist at the end um that that um I thought was like, wow, it it shocked me that that happened. But um, but you know, it's a Stephen King book, so what do you expect? Yeah, yeah, you know, type thing. Um also we've been watching uh Rick and Morty. Uh as a matter of fact, um, in the last two weeks since we last recorded, we have watched uh six seasons. So we're currently in season seven. Nice. Um you behave. Um, which is pretty dark season, to be honest. Seven is a dark season. That's where a lot of you know, there are two episodes that have warnings before them that say that talk about this episode has some stuff to do about suicide. And it's like, my god, very dark season. But but what I love about Rick and Morty is I love the continuity in the show. Um, because if you remember in the first season, if you have watched it, in the first season, Jerry and um oh god, I can't think of her the what Beth went out on on some uh thing and said, Don't have any parties in the house. And and Rick and Summer and Morty ended up having this massive party that ended up transporting the house to another to another uh dimension, right? Yes. Well, what's interesting is that when you when the they portal back to their location, there's this big crack in the sidewalk and along there everywhere, right? It's still there in season seven. Yes, it's like amazing how they have that continuity, you know. So uh, you know, but but I also like the the little throwbacks to all the previous episodes that uh you know and also the fact that you can't really tell which Rick is Rick, you know, or which Morty is Morty sometimes. Yeah. That is true. And the episode that we just watched, um, I I it was a throwback to the one where Morty with the eye patch, so to speak. Yeah, evil Morty. So that one was kind of fun. Um, but but I'm also still playing Disney Dreamlight Valley, uh, Forza Horizon 6 and Bistro. Um, but I started playing, you're probably gonna laugh, Lego Batman, Legacy of the Dark Knight. Yes, those are fantastic games. I love the Lego franchise of video games, they're very fun. This one's a little bit different, though, from the other ones, um, because in all the other ones, you know, you basically earn red bricks to get uh super power-up, so to speak, to think to do things like find all the things in an episode or whatever. This one's not like that at all. It's totally different, but it's really fun. Um, the map is fairly large and lots of stuff to do, and so uh it's fun. So uh if you have a chance to play the newest Lego game, that's the one, Lego Batman.

Uh so next up, the interwebs are agog yet again with the latest raccoon news, Jimothy. So this uh compact trash panda from Ballard, Washington was born with a rare congenital defect known as short spine syndrome. And it accentuates uh raccoons normally you know roly poly gait even more. Yeah. Yes, but according to popular science, Jimothy appears to be healthy and well adapted to his condition. Videos of Jimothy quickly went viral, racking up millions of views. Seattle City Council member Alexis Mercedes Rinked made an official proclamation in Jimmy's honor uh with what she's calling Jimothy Summer. A community art uh competition. Oh Lord.

There's some really good videos out there of Jimothy uh playing and and of all this stuff. And what's really kind of cool is they've got some video from when Jimothy was uh was very little, and uh his mother and his siblings pretty much you know were there, like they didn't treat him any differently, and they they you know they took care of him. And of course, yeah. Uh there's a lot of animals that will abandon a misformed baby. And yeah, that's true. Like uh the raccoons did not do that. And his brothers and and sisters uh you know were playing with him just as well. And uh there's some also videos of him now as as he's you know on his own and older. Uh he still loves to play. Yeah he he can ninja roll with the best of them because he's so compact. He's there's some videos of him like doing these really cool roles. And like, yeah, it's he's a he's a uh an honestly really cute uh animal. And that uh short spine disease is not only limited to raccoons, it's also dogs, cats. Uh there are several different uh mammals that have this this same congenital problem. Uh but usually it doesn't affect their, you know, as long as their organs are not too compacted, uh, it usually doesn't affect them negatively, other than you know, maybe they have a little bit different gait uh and you know rollocking. Okay.

We had a terrific uh turnout from the furs and much more than previous years. So, furs, let's be proud and show off our fluff. Come on out to the next Pride event, even if you don't have a fur suit. And it was like kind of weird, but you know, I I couldn't walk down I couldn't walk down three streets of Portland in a parade without everybody noticing me. It's nice.

So, Chitaro, do you have a movie review for us this week? I do, as a matter of fact. It's a movie that is streaming on Amazon Prime currently. Uh, it's from 2024 and it's called Out of the Nest. Yeah, it it sort of sounds kind of a weird, weird, but you know, first off, I want to say that this this movie was animated in Thailand and China. So it's it's uh international, but it it's interesting because most of the you can tell that they did it in English because all of their voices sync to the actual uh talking that they do, so it's kind of weird. But um, but there's I find it amazing too that for some strange reason there's uh several movies that have come out in the last few years, um, specifically furry-related ones, that have a goat as the uh protagonist in the movie. There's Arthur the goat um in in this movie. He he is a barber a barber um ninja apprentice.

Yeah. In this kingdom of Castilia, you know, um they have this tradition where they when they get ready for a new emperor, they introduce this new emperor on um right before the dawn of the new year. And the ironic part is that this is the emperor is supposed to have his hair cut by a prestigious person, hence the barber ninja apprentice thing. Um and so so they teach them how to well be a barber, so to speak. But the ironic part is that something happens where the the new emperor and his wife and his wife end up having um seven they well, they're chickens, these emperors are chickens, and they lay eggs, and these eggs end up getting stolen by the order of the claw. Oh no. Oh no. Ooh, the claw. Yeah, it makes me think of the doctor gadget. Well, you know, it's something about what is it, creative license. Yeah, that's what it would be. Because, you know, um it's it's amazing because the the emperor had this beautiful flowing long hair and stuff, and it was very beautiful. So who who knew that chickens could have nice flowing hair? So but anyway, so so there's these eggs that the emperor and the empress, I guess, um end up uh laying, and they're very important, of course, and what's ended up happening is the order of the claw ended up stealing these eggs. And yeah, and so um so what ends up happening is it becomes it eventually becomes Arthur the goat's responsibility to take care of these eggs and keep them from the Order of the Claw. So so as he is escaping from the Order of the Claw, he he's got all of these seven eggs in a backpack and he's like trying to get away and stuff like that. Well, as he is escaping along this, yeah, I'd say it's a raging river, so to speak, um, these eggs are hatching like one by one. Oh no. And what's amazing is that every single one of these chickens that hatched were a different color. Okay. One of them was red, one of them was orange, one of them was yellow, one of them was green, one of them was blue, and one of them was purple. Exactly. It was kind of funny, you know. So yeah, he he didn't want to have to call them out by their names or or by their color, so he he gave these uh chickens all the names and stuff. And so he basically protects these chickens, and um it's a very fun story. It actually is more of a a life lesson because of the fact that, you know, Arthur the goat thought that he was better than he really was. And he he ends up in this learning that he was something more than he thought he was. And because of the fact that he learns this later, you know, that's the kind of the lesson in this is that don't oversell yourself because you know, you you're you're gonna end up getting into yourself eventually, you know. So he was kind of like, Well, I want to be this great bar. But what he didn't realize was that his parents were also great ninja warriors, so to speak. They don't really name the position that he is in. So I'm kind of saying that because you know they they have the the uh the fighting ability, you know, and stuff. Kung Fu fighting. Is it kung fu in Chinese? Ninja Two Ninjas. Yeah, yeah, well there we go. I I I get confused sometimes though, but but it was really a fun movie. You know, the the animation is extremely excellent. When I watch a movie, I go on to IMDB and I go through, and after I've done watching the movie, I go through and read the tr the trivia stuff of the movie, and I read all the goofs that happen in the movie. And there weren't any of those for this movie, even though it's like two years old, right? And so I'm so the ironic part is that I actually found a big gigantic goof while I was watching the movie because there's this one scene where they're in uh in a town and they were playing at a carnival, and one of the chickens was uh you know, you know those things where you throw darts at a uh um at a target, and you're supposed to like hit the center, and if you do enough of them, you win a prize. Well, this all of these chickens had special abilities, so this one chicken that was throwing them had the special ability to always hit in the center of a target. So there was this one target that was like literally flipping back and forth, you know, um, so to speak. And he he hit the target on one side with the arrow, and unfortunately it would flip to the other side, and poof, there's happens to be the arrow on the other side of the target. So it was like frames. Yeah, yeah. So it was like I was laughing when I saw that. I'm going, wait, no, no, this movie is too good for something of that nature. But that was the only real major uh fault that I saw in the whole entire movie. But like I said, it it it had really good um I I didn't recognize any voice that was in it. I don't because they're all Asian uh actors and and actresses that were doing the voices, but it was really prestigious and uh, you know, and and some of the voices were very um charismatic and and and it just was an overall wonderful movie. Um, you know, I I'm I'm giving this four and three quarter chirps because it deserves it deserves five, but because of the fact that I noticed one goof on my own without having to be told there was any, uh I figure it should just have a little tiny bit of things.

I would say I'm kind of torn between between a ribeye and a New York, to be honest. Because, you know, depending upon if the ribeye is is tender enough or the New York is thick enough, then you know, it's kind of a 50-50, in my opinion.

The one thing I disagree with Guga, you know, Guga the the steak guy that's on YouTube. Real good? Yes, real good. Uh he's a Brazilian guy, and the one thing I disagree with him on is ribeye is the best cut. He says picanha is the king of steaks, and it's not because it's more tough. You have to cut it against the grain. Ribbeye is always nice and tender if it's if it's marbled correctly and cooked correctly. Uh, picanha can be hit or miss. I mean, it does have the most fat cap, but just because it has a fat cap doesn't mean you're gonna get all of that fat into the steak, whereas with ribeye, it's marbled and you get all that yummy, you know, fat in the meat and it it becomes very tender as you cook it.

Yeah. That's true. But you know, I'm one of those people, I'm strange. I actually like eating the fat on steak. So Me too.

It actually has more fat digestion, too. Uh red meat is very hard to digest, but if you eat the fat along with the meat, uh, it actually helps the digestion. Uh I did not know that. Yeah, apparently there's some enzymes or something in the fat that helps break down the red meat. Wow, C E U earned. Yeah. It's uh I I found like if when I was eating more lean cuts of red red meat, I had trouble digesting them. I would get a little bit of acid reflux and stuff, but if I eat like a ribeye or something that's that's less lean, uh I didn't get that that you know troubled digestion.

Same here. I I I like it medium rare at the the dunnest. I can go rare if it's a very good piece of uh meat. Um and it's been you know cooked at a high enough temperature to render the fat out. But uh yeah, I I particularly like you know, anywhere from just north of rare into medium rare, I think is a perfect dunness for a steak.

Okay. I'm very sad to announce that most people here in Chile prefer well done meat. Yeah, it's it's it's very sad.

It's very sad. See, when I was a kid, I I insisted because I hated to see the bleeding part of meat. I thought, no, well, no, no, I know, but when you're a kid, you don't know those things. And yeah, it's like, I don't want to see bleeding meat, right? And so I would make sure that mine was exorbitantly well done. But as I got older and I started working in food service, I found out the reason behind why well-done steak is horrible. Um, and it's because it cooks all of the fat out and it it just renders it tasteless. But but as you cook less of it and it's the rare aspect of things, it brings out the flavor of the meat, and that's what's important because the the marbling of the meat is important because it gives the right amount of fat to meat ratio, and then when you cook it in the rare aspect of things, you get the best flavor and taste. Even if you don't season the piece of meat, it gives you wonderful taste. And so I like it to be on the the rare side personally. Now there are certain restaurants that when you say rare, um, they cook it to medium rare, but yeah, that's why you almost have to say, please give me a five-minute steak, and where it's two and a half on both sides.

So a trick for for that uh at restaurants tell them you want it blue rare. Oh they will cook it on the lower side of medium, then you'll get it kind of just just about at the rare. Blue rare is is very rare. Uh, and I find most restaurants do go slightly over the temperature you tell them. So like ask them blue rare if you notice that they that they overcook your steak every time.

So, how do you like to prepare your own steak? Oh, by the way, I like a I like a New York strip as well. But oh, New York strip is good, but yeah, yeah.

Grilled, fried, based on if I have a grill, I've over charcoal, over charcoal, and salt, pepper, garlic salt, or garlic uh, you know, garlic uh seasoning. Powder or call garlic yeah, garlic seasoning basically. Uh salt, pepper, garlic. That's all you need. You don't need anything else.

Yeah, I I I do like um, you know, I do like it over like, you know, this the grill prefer it, but just because you're you know have to like you know burn the charcoal made. I I tend to just use the oven broiler. Yeah, oven broiler is great.

Uh so is uh cast iron pan. Cast iron pan is a great way to cook steaks. Yeah. Microwave. Let's see bad cool.

Yeah, Montreal steak seasoning, a little extra pepper, maybe a couple little bits of red pepper. And yeah, onions.

Yeah, that's that's pretty cool. Oh, yeah, onions on caramelized onions on steak. This is gonna be.

Of course, a chicken fried steak is really good when it's good. Yeah, when it's done right, yes.

But that's a cheaper cut of steak. I usually do where I use fresh garlic um on the steak and I I I like to marinate it in garlic as much as possible because I'm one of those strange people that can eat garlic raw.

Um, garlic is acidic and it helps to break down the the uh the steak anyways.

So and since I don't do a lot with salt, I don't usually salt my meat, but I do pepper it. And so usually just garlic and pepper, and that's about it. But I'm not that much for charcoal personally, because I'm not a char broiled, I don't like char broiled. If you're gonna go just taste weak.

Don't go charcoal briquettes because they are terrible for you.

They've got tons of additives and crap in them for the well, even restaurants, restaurants that use those char broilers that are basically like hot, hot uh strips of metal that's like. Yeah, they're really horrible. I I personally prefer either when I cook it myself, it's either um in a pan um or it is uh in the broiler on on on, you know. I I put a piece of foil on there and then make all the juices stay in the steak rather than dripping through the pan. So true, yeah. The drippings are the best part of a steak, in my opinion. Well, I I prefer to barbecue it on the grill. Um yeah, and we have a we have a pellet grill, so we get that smoky flavor built in. Yeah. Although it's broken, so I haven't been able to do it this year. Oh and I haven't bought a new one yet. Um so um big argument amongst the steak people is prime rib a steak or something else? No, it's a roast.

No, it's yeah, it's a roast. It's a roast. Because, you know, the the the the best is a roast. The prime rib comes from the chest, chest and the ribs, and so it's it's rib meat, and so it's kind of like not where the steak comes from, which is usually the sides or the flank. And so, you know, it's not considered uh a steak because it is usually cooked in a roast with the ribs on top.

Yeah, you never you never cook prime rib like as a steak, it's always cooked as a roast and then sliced uh at the in certain times. So like they'll slice it early for the people that want the medium rare cuts, which is the best cuts also of prime rib, and then you know continue to cook it for people who want medium and well done.

Yeah, yeah. I mean, I like a prime rib, and I do know that most steakhouses will have a prime rib on their hand. And of course, I learned the hard way many years ago also when I was sent to Costco dutifully by my husband to pick up prime rib for our Christmas dinner. Now we were feeding 20 for Christmas dinner that time. And uh I walk into Costco and I'm looking for the prime rib. I'm looking, looking, looking, looking, looking, looking, looking, looking, looking. And I finally had to ask one of the butchers. And he says, Well, there is no such thing as prime rib. There is rib roasts, there are standing rib roasts. The prime comes from the the grating of the meat, not the actual cut of the meat. And I was like, Oh, he says, so from this rib roast, you could have prime rib, you could have regular rib. But even if you have regular rib because of the quality, the restaurants are still gonna call it prime rib because that's what they they they're not gonna say, a regular rib dinner for yes, yes. We are going to be at Rose City Comic-Con. Ferlandia will be, that is. Um the 11th to 13th of September. And what's really a-so much fun. Well, you know, I found out that this con has like 20,000 people that come to it. At least that's how many were last year, right?

One that's on the Portland furry con uh history, focusing on Furlandia specifically over the years, um, and another one of dispelling furry myths and stereotypes. Absolutely. My very first time fursuiting in public public uh was at uh Roast City Comic-Con, and everybody was so super kind, and they were like people were constantly grabbing me to take pictures. There's probably dozens and dozens and dozens of pictures of me out there with with uh with Deadpools and and other stuff, like people just grabbing me and saying, Come take a picture with me. It's it's really good. They like furries, uh, it's it's a very fun con.

Well, the ironic part is that Furlandia did not reach out to Rose City Comic-Con. Rose City Comic-Con reached out to us. Yeah. Oh wow. And they they basically heard about us uh through um somebody who's part of their staff, and they knew that we were at down at the uh Hyatt Regency, and they knew that um, you know, so I guess somebody from Rose City Comic-Con came to Forlandia and saw us and said, Oh god, now that you're so big, you have to be here. So that's why they make it.

Nice. Um, basically. And then the other one is of course dispelling furry myths and stereotypes. So those are the two. So the and and that's important because you know, there's a lot of stereotypes and and myths out there about people who think about about furries and stuff, and you know, and when you're at a Comic Con, where's the best place to dispel those things in a panel?
