:00 Opening and Welcome
SPEAKER_11Recently we had a lunar eclipse and I was told I could view it through a colander. I tried, but I strained my eyes. Uh I know. Well in Portland last week, I noticed a man drowning in the river, so I tossed him a bar of soap and he washed ashore.
SPEAKER_09Quick thing.
SPEAKER_11While I was on the shore, I found a bottle on the river on and I cleaned it up, and a genie appeared and granted me one wish. Now I know that's kind of a ripoff, but anyway, I said I just wanted to be happy. Now I live in a cottage with six dwarves and I work in a mine. And some strange things happened. I know. No, it was a happy joke. Some strange things happened while I was at Comic-Con. In fact, one cosplayer threw a bottle of Omega 3s at me and hit me in the head. Thankfully, my injury was only super fish oil. Oh we have launched enough with the chaos. Uh let's get this show going. Well, greetings and move arc fluff to all the creatures in the potiverse. I am Barely, and you are listening to Barely Furcasting featuring Tabin. Joining me in the studio is Chitaro, Rain TikTok, and Ziggy. How are all of you? Wonderful.
SPEAKER_10Sweet. Nobody's been killed yet. Yep.
SPEAKER_11Oh, that's good. Yeah. Especially in a domestic relationship like you guys are in. Uh Tabin. Are you fresh and ready to go today? Tabin. That's me.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, I said one named Tabin.
SPEAKER_11I said your name, yes.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I think I like lost consciousness for a half a second when you said my name.
SPEAKER_11Oh, okay. Tabin, are you fresh and ready to go today?
SPEAKER_06My consciousness is has returned. So yes, I am, because time for Jesse for a walk.
SPEAKER_05And wait for it.
SPEAKER_06On the count of three, one, two, three. What you should do about English. Let's try that again on the count of three.
SPEAKER_05One, two, three.
SPEAKER_11How you should do about English. Yeah, you know that doesn't work, Tabin. It never works with us. No.
SPEAKER_06But I'm sure all of our listeners love hearing it. So uh make sure to write us in uh in various places about how you think about what we just did in non-unison.
SPEAKER_11Mm-hmm. Yes. Absolutely. Are there any listener shout-outs tonight, Tabin? No! No, okay.
:16 Past Revisited
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_11So we're gonna talk about some things that we're gonna revisit here. I want to know if everybody talked like a pirate on September 19th. I did not. I was at Comic Con and totally forgot about it. Totally forgot about it.
SPEAKER_08I was at the world. Probably pirating something else, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_11Yeah. Alright.
SPEAKER_03So uh I spoke like a droid a couple of times when I was. You didn't think. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11And actually, that wasn't that wasn't when I was at Comic Con. It was Comic Con the week
:23 RCCC Recap
SPEAKER_11before that. Uh Chitaro, TikTok, and I all participated in Roe City Comic Con on September 11th to the 13th. It was a great time and lots of fun. And uh TikTok, how did you like Comic-Con?
SPEAKER_09Oh, it was fun. Yeah, it was my first time attending. Um did uh some Protogen fro first eating on Friday, some Coyote first eating on Sunday, took the Max over from Beaverton in full suit. So and back again. Oh yeah. I've done it before, uh, but yeah, you always but of course, you know, like this time, you know, with it being Comic Con and the train going. Yeah, I mean, like at least a third, a half of the people on the train were either going to or coming from anyway.
SPEAKER_11So it wasn't a big deal, right? You said, okay, one more dressed-up person on the train. What the heck?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, and it's Portland anyway. So it's like Right, right, yeah. Uh there was this little girl on the way coming back, and she was just fascinated with me and kept looking over and waving on way back. And I said, You know, there's an actual convention for us in Bay where you can see lots and lots of stuff. And her mom was just like, Oh, would you like to go to that? And she's like, uh-huh.
SPEAKER_08Go to this den and ask for Ferlandia. Yes. Follow the path of the fur. Yes. So nice.
SPEAKER_09Um, let's see, he helped out she with his two panels. Um do more details on that in a minute. But yeah, that was a lot of fun. And uh, I also participated more in the second one, which was uh furry miss, and we kind of had like our own section to read along with um who is it, Bramble or Kitters?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Bramble.
SPEAKER_09Bramble, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_03Yep, Bramble Ghost Cat. Hi, Bramble.
SPEAKER_09Hi, Bramble, shout out to Bramble.
SPEAKER_11Hello, Bramble. Good time was had by all. Tabin, or not Tabin, but Chitaro, do you think it was a success to be at Rose City?
SPEAKER_03Well, first off, I want to say I can see how you can tell can get us confused, you know. Well, dogs, dogs and cats pretending to be friends, you know, it could be a bad thing.
SPEAKER_02Right, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_03But anyway, um, I I I had a blast at uh at Rose City Comic-Con. The fact is that, you know, I finding out why we were really there was amazing to me. And it was like our guests of honor last year, uh, one one of them, specifically Jonah Scott, uh, his girlfriend, Jalitza, is on the board of Rose City Comic Con. And she said after our con, she enjoyed herself so much, she wrote to them and said, You would be a fool not letting Ferlandia come to our con. So they reached out, and that's why we were there. And you know, doing the two, doing the two panels that we did, doing the meetups that we did, they were very much well received. Um, I I will say that I talked to quite a few people after each of those panels, and it was kind of fun. Um, I actually got to talk to one teacher who came up to me and said, Okay, how would you handle a situation with a kid who's getting teased that's a furry? And I gave her some suggestions, and she said, I'm gonna try that, see what happens. Punch the bully in the mouth.
SPEAKER_02Yes, have a shoulder. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Follow through. Follow through. Yes, follow through.
SPEAKER_03But you know, the the fun part was the panels, I will say, you know, because on Friday of the con, we did our history of furries um and uh furries on Furlandia.
SPEAKER_11No, we did our history of Furlandia.
SPEAKER_03Well, history of Furlandia, true. It was it was the his it it touched a little bit on the history of furries because we did say in the very beginning about how uh how furries came from the sci-fi and comic-con era. And so uh we did talk about that. But yeah, but yeah, you're right. It it was mostly 95% talking about Furlandia, the history and how we got from the 280-some people back in 2013 to the almost 4400 in 2026. Yep. And so it was amazing. But uh, but our but I think the one panel that seemed to have a little bit more uh attendance and a little bit more oomph was the myths and stereotypes of furries. You know uh that one did very well. Good. Yeah, yep. So so it was fun. We had lots of fun, and I'm glad that lots of people came out. And I spent more money than I intended.
SPEAKER_06Yes, and what do you think the uh um attendance at Rose City was this year?
SPEAKER_03If I had to guess, I I don't know because we were in the part of the convention center that was on the opposite side of where most of the action was happening, but it still seemed like walking through the main uh part where all the dealers and stuff were that there was like 15,000 people there. Yeah, easily at least. I wouldn't be able to guess beyond that, to be honest.
SPEAKER_06I read uh this was a week before Rose City, I think, that they were anticipating a total that would be over the course of the weekend, not a single day, but over the course of the weekend, 60,000 unique individuals. Would you say that might be right?
SPEAKER_11That that might be right. Uh because I mean, first of all, there was probably at least, I would have to say six to seven hundred vendors there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, maybe even more. Maybe even more. There were a lot. Because if you know the convention center, they have fig five big gigantic um event halls, and they were all open.
SPEAKER_11They were all open that, so it was it was amazing. Um you know, it was one of those things where I kept walking around the vendor area and I would find something, and I would say, Oh, yeah, I think I'm gonna buy that, but I'm gonna think about it, and then I would walk around, and then I could never find that booth again.
SPEAKER_10Yep. It's massive, it's such a huge vendor's area. That's what they indicated.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_10So, all right, so did you guys did you guys feel I got a question? Did you guys feel as welcome there as as as at most fur cons? Because I found everybody was totally cool with me being a furry. Nobody, nobody was like, ew, a furry or anything. Oh, yeah, no, there was really fun to do.
SPEAKER_11There was there was we probably saw maybe 60 or 70 furries that were there in costume, yeah, in fursuit.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, so it was the first yeah. And that was just the portion that came over by us. Yeah. Right. So the year I went that first year that I the first time that I publicly fursuited, I want to say I had I had like across the genres. I had anime people wanting to take pictures with me, I had horror people wanting to take pictures of me. I had I had uh sci-fi, you know, people taking pictures of me, uh superheroes, so many superheroes, uh video game heroes. It was it was unitage.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah, it was just crazy.
SPEAKER_11It was crazy.
SPEAKER_09Uh two uh two notes. Uh one, I think the 60,000 number comes from uh you know, it's not a cheap convention. No, so but I think they get a lot of day trippers. Yes, yes, you know, just to save just to save money. Yeah. So they're not they're not stay staying the whole weekend.
SPEAKER_11No, and that what they said, what they what it said was uh 60 to 70,000 individuals that uh throughout the weekend. Total throughout the weekend.
SPEAKER_10And that's that's what I found too. I usually went all days uh except for the Friday, but uh the Saturdays and Sundays usually super packed, and you'll see a whole bunch of different people on Sunday that you didn't see on Saturday. So I would guess the big turnover.
SPEAKER_06You know, with all those people, it's a good thing it didn't rain, or else it would have been a toto disaster.
SPEAKER_11All right, uh, let's move along then. Um I thought I would help us move along.
:14 YouTube explanation
SPEAKER_11Sure. I I have received a few questions about why this podcast is listed as 18 plus on YouTube. Well, y'all can thank Florida for that. Florida says that furry things are adult-oriented, and in order for us to be available in Florida, we have to put that restriction on there. So that's the reason why, listeners. Um I apologize if you're under 18 and you can't watch on YouTube
:16 Con Circuit Announcements
SPEAKER_11because you live in Florida. Uh, two major announcements on the con circuit. First off, Furlandia posted the reasons why the change in the hotel and dates uh that had to change from Memorial Day weekend for 2027 only to Mother's Day weekend in 2027. And this was due to hotel and venue causing major issues. If you go to Furlandia's Telegram or website to read the explanation from the con chair, you will see all of the reasons why. Also, get out the float has been postponed for 2027 for various reasons. So you'll have to wait until 2028
:14 Centaurs
SPEAKER_11to attend this con. TikTok, do you have something to do about centaurs here?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I seem to recall we mentioned something about revisiting centaurs in the future. We did. Yeah, so centaurs. Uh, they're kind of weird if you think about it. A human head and torso stuck on a horse's body. Yes. It's thought the pre-Greeks saw people from the east for the first time were riding horses. Then somehow the image of the riders being one body kind of became entrenched in their legend.
SPEAKER_10It's like the telephone game. Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_09Exactly. And uh, according to Greek lore, uh centaurs were wild and uncivilized, drank far too much wine, and known for being rowdy.
SPEAKER_10That just sounds like furries.
SPEAKER_09Yes, pretty much. Uh, what exception was Chiron, who is a bit different and considered to be wise and noble, and tutored young warriors such as Achilles and Jason.
SPEAKER_10If you're a fan of the Percy Jackson novels, Chiron is uh plays a big part in those.
SPEAKER_09But the physiology, it's been pointed out that horses can gallop at or at gallop, can breathe up to 10 gallons of air per second. Wow. So try inhaling and exhaling that volume of gas for a human's mouth and nose. Right. And same with food intake, a horse can eat up to 30,000 calories per day. Wow. Um, you know, centaurs were reportedly meat eaters, so that makes it a bit less challenging, but that's like what? Oh uh 15, 20 or so uh Big Macs? Devil Big Macs. Yeah, each meal. Yes. Yeah. The human torso would have to be huge and incredibly muscled. Uh as uh pointed out by Redditor, uh Bloody Pommel Studio, the human portion of a centaur would look more like Nusferatu Zod than some woodland twing. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_10That character being a big thing. Is it that that that that that company is trying to bring up, that centaur robot?
SPEAKER_09I haven't.
SPEAKER_10Oh that thing is scary looking. It's even got big horns on its head, and yeah, it's it's creepy looking. And they've they've actually there they want to put bladders in it that you that uh human humans can puncture if the thing goes out of control. Because if you puncture those bladders, it it will stop the whole system.
SPEAKER_11That's weird.
SPEAKER_10So you can stab it, stab it or shoot it, and it'll stop the whole system if one of those bladders is punctured.
SPEAKER_08Aren't they preventing taking ahead of the AI erasing stuff? Yeah. Yeah, like taking ahead.
SPEAKER_11They're building in safeguards to the AI. I love it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But uh they're wanting to make sure that Terminator does not come true, right?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, especially centaur terminator. Yes. I included a couple images of centaurs. Uh, what is a serious but not serious drawing of the centaur's anatomy, which tries to make the most of how it would be. So it has these huge lungs and then huge heart and the human part and the digestive system, it's more of the horse's part. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Put that on YouTube for those listeners that can watch on YouTube.
SPEAKER_09Um there's also, yeah, there's also the burning question. How does a centaur wear pants? They don't need to. Well, like on the front legs, the rear legs, yeah, the whole thing.
SPEAKER_03I think a centaur with no pants is okay.
SPEAKER_09Yeah. I mean, horses don't be. Or they just don't duck it, they do like the upper. Right, just the shirt on. Just a shirt.
SPEAKER_03Although I've never seen I've never seen a centaur wear any sort of a shirt either. No, they've always been bare-chested. They're usually bare chested.
SPEAKER_08Maybe for a formal function? Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, no, that's that was my thought. My formal, my formal centaur wear, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_11Tux. Yes. Put a metatux. A centaur that looks like a penguin. And that's uh centaurs for you. Okay, well, thank you for that uh report on centaurs.
:18 What Day is Today?
SPEAKER_11Alright, uh, that takes us up to what day is today on our recording day, 922-26. It is National Ice Cream Cone Day. Yes, yay! Scrip wheels. And it's Elephant Appreciation Day and Brown Butter Day and White Chocolate Day.
SPEAKER_02I like Yeah.
SPEAKER_11I mean, it it'd be it'd be okay, you know, having a brown butter, white chocolate ice cream cone. Not sure what elephant would taste like. That was an elephant.
SPEAKER_03I think that would be a little bit gamey and uh maybe a lot of grass.
SPEAKER_11I don't know. Maybe we should ask Salt and Straw to come up with an elephant flavored ice cream.
SPEAKER_02Or maybe not.
SPEAKER_11Or maybe not.
SPEAKER_03You know, I'm not sure I would want to try that just because. Although they do make elephant ears at the zoo.
SPEAKER_11Yes. I mean, elephant ears taste good, so why wouldn't elephant ice cream? Anyway, on our release day, on release day, 10 326, it is National Boyfriend Day and Techie Day. So all you techies out there, happy day, happy day. And if your boyfriend is a techie, you have two reasons to celebrate. Party on. Tabin, would you get us Zen right now and give us some formations?
SPEAKER_06My my elf and imitation didn't do it for you. No. No.
SPEAKER_07That's what that was.
SPEAKER_06I just as when everyone just did that at the same time, I just had a flashback to don't let the pigeon drive the bus. Yes, no.
SPEAKER_07No! Everyone said yeah.
SPEAKER_06It was very good.
SPEAKER_04Yes, so
:19 Furmations
SPEAKER_04all you furs out there that may or may not know, there's a section we do on the show called affirmations to help us through our wonderful and beautiful fluffy life.
SPEAKER_06And these days I have some cards with the doggies on the front positive vibe affirmations. And guess what? I am now holding the last positive vibe. Oh, I have to find something else. Oh my god, every person. Oh my god. Oh my god. If you freezer listening to this, you get the pleasure.
SPEAKER_04The last two positive vibes from the doggy. From my positive vibe.
SPEAKER_07Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's my problem. I'm not breathing. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Doggy says Insight guides. My decisions and riches. My understanding.
SPEAKER_06On the back it says, Insight journaling! Journal journaling. Journal okay, journaling once a week. Journal about a recent experience.
SPEAKER_04And the insights that you have gained from it. This practice can help you understand your actions and reactions better, leading to more thoughtful decisions in the future. The last are the last positive affirmation doggy card is you you dogg.
SPEAKER_06Uh what are those doggies that look like Siberian huskies, but it's tan instead of doggy.
SPEAKER_04Is that a Shiba Nu?
SPEAKER_06It's a Shibanu? It's like a border collie-ish, but it it's tan. An Akita?
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_06It's an adorable little doggy. Anyway, Mr. Unknown at the moment doggy says, Patience is my trusted and we finish with on the back the the patience practice. Choose a situation where you typically feel impatient, such as anytime Burley is running this podcast, and consciously decide to cultivate. Actually, anytime Barley has to deal with me and decide to cultivate patience. Notice how this changes your reaction and the I don't know if that's gonna happen, but there it is.
SPEAKER_07This concludes the positive vibe doggies for the ever. Wow, woo woo woo.
SPEAKER_03Yay. Next time, Tabin, you have to have kitties now.
unknownOh yeah.
SPEAKER_08Alright. This was doggies. Or raccoons or weasels.
SPEAKER_11Raccoons or weasels. Alright.
:06 Media
SPEAKER_11Well, it's uh time for our media section.
SPEAKER_07Yeah! Whoa! Yeah!
SPEAKER_11Oh, he added something to it.
SPEAKER_10Yeah. A little phlegm, it sounds like.
SPEAKER_11A little bit of phlegm. Between our last recording and this one, I was at the Roastity Comic Con promoting for Landia, as I said before, and I had to watch network TV in my hotel room. Uh oh no. I know. I watched reruns of diners, drive-ins and dives, and some family guy and some big bang theory. Now the TV had visually impaired closed captioning on.
SPEAKER_10Oh, okay. Now letters like this? Gigantic?
SPEAKER_11No, it was somebody explaining what was going on on the screen.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, those that's new for closed captioning.
SPEAKER_11And let me tell you, it was uh distracting as hell. Um so I was fiddling around trying to get that turned off, and I accidentally killed the feed for the entire hotel.
SPEAKER_08It scratches his ear.
SPEAKER_11Yes, and I'm scratching my ear. So it was uh yeah, I mean the TV went blank and I heard a collective scream from several rooms around me, like, how come the TV is out? How on earth did you do that? I have no idea. I don't know. I was digging in the settings, and somehow I got into the hotel settings on the on the TV. It it's it said hotel settings.
SPEAKER_06You shouldn't be able to do that. I know for such reasons such as this.
SPEAKER_11Yes, and uh I got rid of it, but um, and about five minutes later the TV blinked back on, and and I assumed everybody else's TV came back on too.
SPEAKER_06But you did you hear like all around you a whole bunch of oh yay!
SPEAKER_11No, no, they they were it was you know, when something comes back, everybody goes, oh good, it's back. But when something goes away, everybody screams. Then you scream, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, so my bad. Um, and then when I got home, I watched some reruns of that 70s show. The hubby and I are caught up on Star Trek, Lanterns, and started a new cartoon on Netflix called Dang. That's D-A-N-G exclamation point. And it's about two brothers or two sisters and a brother, all adults, and they're very weird dynamic. Um it's it's funny, but uh it's very strange. So if you have a chance, take a listen to Dang. I also have started The Lost Symbol on Peacock, which is a Dan Brown novel serialization. Uh so far it's pretty good. Chitaro, how about you? What have you been mediating?
SPEAKER_03Well, so since our last recording, I got to watch the 2025 movie Tron Ares. Um, it's been on my list of things to watch ever since it came out.
SPEAKER_11And were you as disappointed as everyone else with that movie?
SPEAKER_03It was an interesting take on Tron because, see, the grandson of the original master program developer is now in charge of everything, right? Yes, Dillinger, yeah. I thought it was interesting. I thought it was better than the last uh Tron, the Tron legacy, to be honest, it was a little bit better. Um, I do have to say that the time frame of this movie is a long time after the other two, to be honest. But I found it interesting that Jeff Bridges, when he did this character, and maybe it's because I have him uh typecasted in this aspect, but he reminded me of not necessarily the entrepreneur who who started uh all the stuff with games and stuff like that in the original Tron, but more like the big Lebowski of you know of the dude, because he's sitting there going, Okay, man, okay, man, okay, man.
SPEAKER_10And he's Well in Legacy he was that way too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but this was way more, this was way more than in Legacy, to be honest. You know, he's wearing a robe and uh kind of this white robe stuff. So in Legacy as well. Yeah, but this looked a lot more similar to, you know, maybe maybe it's because I've just recently did something about the big Lebowski. Probably just like in the bigger.
SPEAKER_11So you had the Big Lebowski in the brain.
SPEAKER_06And can I say that? So what was who was it? John Davis?
SPEAKER_11Jeff Bridges?
SPEAKER_06Jeff Bridges, I mean, hi.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, John Davis, Jeff Bridges, they're so similar.
SPEAKER_06I totally thought you were gonna say, because what did you say? You said um Jeff Bridges uh Well, I totally thought you were gonna say, because I have Jeff Bridges tattooed on my uh well, insert your favorite body part, I guess, but but you didn't say that.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Well, the other thing that I've watched is uh Pink Lemonade and I finished the series Heroes. It was a very interesting ending. Um it it it it it ended with a carnival and earthquakes in New York City Central Park. Nice. So um so yeah, it was rather interesting. I'm I'm looking forward to the sequel that they had called uh Heroes Reborn, but unfortunately, I'm not going to pay money to Amazon to be able to watch it. So uh Amazon gets way too much money. They don't need mine. That's true. Anyway, but because we ended the Heroes series, we started a new series, one that's also on Netflix uh from 2021 called Resident Alien.
SPEAKER_11Yes, it's a great series.
SPEAKER_03Great series, yeah, which I have talked about add the nightem on the show. And and and you know, I haven't gotten around to watching it because there's so many other things that are are out there. But we started watching this because, you know, I said, you know, I love Alan Tudic. He does a lot of interesting things, but this is a funny series because I I love the fact that every single opening is um literally a different like airplane explanation. The little cartoons aliens, but yeah, yeah. Every single one of them is different and it's kind of unique.
SPEAKER_10But um pretty much anything Alan Tudic does is slightly funny at the very least, because they cannot stop him from ad-living.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Well, well, I think it's funny that you know that he's not able to be seen by anybody except that one little kid. And that that whole entire thing was amazing. And some of the jokes that are said in this are like really funny, like specifically because the the police officer said something about finding the stuff. He he had this feeling in his balls, and it's like, and he says, I wouldn't trust your balls because they're nuts. Yeah, so so there's a lot of that kind of silly humor in it, because of course he's an alien, so it's kind of funny. So it I think it's apropos for this for our podcast, too, so to speak. Um yeah, but I'm looking forward to the next three seasons because we've totally watched the first season to death, so to speak, and it was really awesome. So I've also been continuing to play on my Xbox Disney Dreamlight Valley, uh, Forza Horizon 6, and Star Trek Online, but I also started a new furry bait game that's called Anemo.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna have to write this down.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's A-N-I-I-M-O. It's on Steam, it's on Xbox, it's on PlayStation. It's it's really fun. You you get to create your own character, and mine is purple with uh a very interesting-looking face. But um, you get to create this character, and then you go around, it's it's kind of like, well, Pokemon, but not Pokemon. Okay. Where you go around and you collect little animals in these little things that are not balls either. So uh they're like little triangles, but it's kind of fun. And so, needless to say, I think it's a fun game, and and I I believe it or not, I think it's big furry bait because um, you know, you don't get to be an animal in this, but you get to have all sorts of fun with the animals, and some of them actually talk to you, so it's kind of cool. Oh, very cool.
SPEAKER_06But do an amazing job of ignoring me tonight.
SPEAKER_03I love you, Taven, but sometimes you you get a little bit over the top, but it's okay. We still love you. We still love you.
SPEAKER_10Rain, what have you been watching in Media Inc.? Well, we hadn't had a lot of time to watch any movies together, though. Now that we got a pretty brand new TV that we put up today, uh we're probably gonna try and watch more movies together while we were not watching movies together. I did catch up on Star Trek Strange New Worlds. Really enjoyed the last the latest two episodes, especially the one with Joe Morton, guest starred as Admiral Rieger. For anybody that doesn't know, he he played Henry and Eureka and Files Dyson in Terminator 2. He's a fantastic actor. Anybody, if you'll you've probably seen him in a million things. He's been in so many things.
SPEAKER_11And you know, he this he he plays the character the same way, no matter what character he's playing. He's just yelly and and snarky and a pain in the ass, and I love him for it.
SPEAKER_10Yes, yeah, he's really, he's really he plays himself. Uh uh very, you know.
SPEAKER_08He plays with himself? No, he plays himself.
SPEAKER_03That's completely different.
SPEAKER_10Yes. So, but yeah, there's uh one more episode to go before we uh before the break until next year's sort short season. I've also been replaying Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus and recently completely restarted Fallout 4 from scratch because it's been far too long since I played it, and I have forgotten where I was and what I was doing. So I was only 20% of the way through, anyways.
SPEAKER_03So I have a question to ask you, Rain. Mods or no mods? No mods. I don't play with mods. Okay. So that's it for me.
SPEAKER_08Ziggy, how about you? As usual, guess what? I've been playing Fortnite. No. And yes. And I suffered the consequences of my decision to buy a new pickaxe. Uh-oh. It is a fork and a knife. It's a fork knife. A fork and knock. Yeah. And I've been punished for that. Okay. As punishment, my husband has stated that for one week I cannot groan about his terrible dad joke. Groaning.
SPEAKER_10Groaning right now. Yeah. That gets you another day. Yes. Uh oh.
SPEAKER_08Also, believe it or not, I'm going to start playing something else. Yay! Really? I didn't put that in the nose caven. You can tell. So is okay. I got a sweet.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_08I got a sweet deal for Far Cry 5 and 6, which also come with Far Cry 3.
SPEAKER_07So yay! Tip Target.
SPEAKER_11Okay, TikTok. So we're this is Chaos Corner, so welcome to Chaos Corner. It's Chaos Theory. Yes, Chaos.
SPEAKER_09Uh so we're back to regular Jeopardy. The clues are much easier overall than the Masters Tournament. And did like a little made-up example. So regular season would be something like an orange tabby who likes lasagna is the clue.
SPEAKER_03Who is Garfield? Who is Garfield?
SPEAKER_09Right, right. So Master's Tournament, and it would probably be in like, you know, Sunday funnies. And then they would stick this in like, I don't know, pot parie or whatever. A fractious feline foodie with an affinity for Neapolitan nourishment.
unknownYes. Okay.
SPEAKER_09It's a little bit more difficult. Just slightly. Right. And then like someone else has gotten it already, and you're like, oh God, you're kidding me. But anyway.
SPEAKER_10Who is Bucktown Tiger? Yes. Right.
SPEAKER_09Let's see. Also, uh bad yachters, aka below deck, and they are all very bad. The uh most recent guest brought an inflatable sex doll as an extra guest. Oh wow. Uh and served it, served the dollars.
SPEAKER_10There were seamen on deck, really.
SPEAKER_09Yes, there were. Although it was all women. The guests were all women, so and there was a woman sex doll. But uh yeah, the uh the chef even made up like fake dinners for the doll. That just seems fair. It seems like they're doing that on purpose for the show. Probably. Probably, yeah. But it's it's also kind of seemingly in line with the season's other furry-ish references. Okay. Yeah. Let's see. Saw a documentary, The AI Doc, or How I Became an Apocalypse Optimist. Apocalypse. Yes, Apocalypse.
SPEAKER_06I don't know what that word means.
SPEAKER_10Somebody who's uh optimistic for the future of the apocalypse.
SPEAKER_09It's rather interesting overall with viewpoints on both sides of the fence. Uh, so it's either wildly pessimistic from industry insiders and watch groups, or wildly optimistic from rich tech bros. Imagine that. And you know, they're all answering the question if AI will end or save humanity. And spoiler alert, there's no good answer. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Well, everybody should learn how to make fire with with a with uh you know basic tools. Limited steel.
SPEAKER_09Right.
SPEAKER_10Lip and steel or sticks.
SPEAKER_09And as an aside, when bazillionaires start blathering around blathering about um man space travel, I just pretty much discount anything they've ever said. Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Oh, I really want Elon to try though. Please try to go to the moon, Elon. Please, or not to the moon, Mars. Yes, as far away as possible.
SPEAKER_08Go to the sun. Go. Yes, safe. To the sun, yes. It's safe to go do the night.
SPEAKER_09Take Trump with you. So it's like, yeah, in science, if you have a hypothesis and you want to prove it, you try to prove it wrong. Right. So see if you can prove it wrong or not. Sure.
SPEAKER_11Sure. The problem is if he takes Trump with him, he'll name the moon America.
SPEAKER_10Oh god. Yeah, but we won't be able to hear him because you know they don't they're not gonna have to find that.
SPEAKER_11No one can hear you.
SPEAKER_03Plus, sound sound does not traverse in space. That's true. That's true.
SPEAKER_11Tabin, what have you been media ing?
SPEAKER_06Well, let's see. I've been watching. Oh, he started season eight of Brooklyn 99? Woo! Woo! It's interesting that it's still, you know, it's on season eight, but the little um descriptor thing on the you know, the title screen thingy for Netflix, it says four seasons. Well, anyway. Um we started glitch. Have any of you heard glitch? No, no, it's uh so it's Netflix and it went from 2015 to 2019. We've only seen, I think, two episodes so far. But it's interesting. So it's about seven people that rise from their graves, and well, the show just goes from there. Like they were dead, and now they rose from their grave. And as I say, we've only seen two episodes, so no one knows what's going on or anything. It's developing plot and things. Um, it's pretty interesting so far and and intrigueful. So we're gonna keep watching. But I it's it's definitely a supernatural thing with um lots of mystery and unknown. So if you're interested in that kind of thing, um after only I've only seen two episodes, uh, maybe check it out. I'll let you know more next time. Oh, and I watched Scary Movie Extended Cut. That's the 2026 version, which is really Scary Movie 6. From under the couch? No, I I actually made it not from under the couch. I was on top of the couch. Wow, I am proud of it. Um I I, for one, really love the original scary movie, and I saw Scary Movie 2 and 3, and I think after 3 I decided not to see four and five. Okay. But I really did like uh I mean Scary Movie 2 had some good stuff in it, but you know, um, I've seen the first one lots of times. So I do want to say a few things about this movie. So it's very much in the scary movie series. Um, it parodies holy cow, it totally parodies other terror and horror type movies all over the place. And in fact, they parody a whole bunch of times the original scary movie in Scary Movie 6. Um, if you're a fan of the first scary movie and have seen that one a bunch, this is actually gonna be pretty good for you. They bring back, no spoilers, because it's it's the basic premises, they bring back all the original Cindy, Brenda, etc. And indeed, of course, the original Ghostface they bring back. And so they do a lot of things with that. Um, these people now have children and stuff, and so they there's a whole I mean there's so much original um style, scary movie-esque stuff that's going on on it. So that's why I say if you really like the original one, this might be um really interesting for you. They also, I mean, it's a 2026 show when they do also include 2026 real world happenings, little shout-outs to what's happening in our world right now, so that's actually kind of fun. And the the actual plot of the show and what happens at the end, I mean, no spoilers, I'm not gonna tell you, but the actual plot and what happens at the end is at the same time both original and not original at the same time. It's like really, it was very I really like what they did in the end. As I say, if you've only seen the original scary movie once or twice and maybe you just saw some of the others and thought, well, it's okay, I guess you probably won't like this one too much. But for those of you that love the original, as I have and seen it multiple times, and also love the genre, this is actually pretty good. Yeah, it depends on your your take on the original scary movie. I I think whether or not you're really gonna like this. But um definitely if you've seen it lots of times uh the original, you will see lots of stuff that are just kind of endears you and brings you back to the beginning, and it's really cool, like that, I think. Nice. So yeah, check that out, it's pretty cool. I've been playing a few things, um, not much well, a little bit of Royal Kingdom, not much bloons, a little bit of beat or beat saber. Um, talked about last time Gemcraft, Prox, Prosper and Wrath. I'm doing better with that, getting more experienced. It's fun. I started this game in VR called Rival Stars Horse Racing. Racing. And it's um it's what it sounds like. It's you're racing a horse. Your first horse that you start with, her name is Clumsy Charm. I got a horse in a clumsy charm. It's what you think. It's uh you do some horse racing around a track and you've gotta win some races, but you can upgrade horses, you can complete little quest-like things. Your clumsy charm gets um dirty after a race, so you've gotta brush your horse and you get points for doing that, and you can feed uh your horsey apples and sugar. I've seen little I've seen um like reviews online for this, and some people are like, actually, my favorite part of the game is taking care of my horse. So it's but but it's kind you you can you get bonding points, like you get experiment experience points, and one type of experience you get is bonding points. So like you pet your horsey and it little hearts appear and float away when you do that, and you get bonding points, and it's kind of cute um and fun anyway. So that's something worth checking out. Um that what that's what I have in media for this time now.
:23 Chilean Sayins'
SPEAKER_11Well, that takes us up to our one of our newer segments, the Chilean Saiyans with Ziggy.
SPEAKER_08Hola, weones, weonas, Ifurros. Welcome to Chilean Saiyan. This is Z2DI Double G N Y bringing you all the cool Chilean slang we will ever need you will ever need to know to survive in Chile. For today, my lovely husband has handpicked a few words, this beautiful, fine, gentle raccoon. Hello! Yes, it's him, and for our enlightenment, he has chosen uh the first word, which is Auevonados. Awebonado. Yes. It's a very useful word that you are going to hear here quite often. Okay. Ahuebonado.
SPEAKER_03It sounds like it sounds like it's something to do with eggs and tornadoes.
SPEAKER_06And and like A lot of things have to do with eggs down here, believe it or not.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06And and maybe um avocados along with huevos rancheros or something? Oh, yubby. Well, not no couple.
SPEAKER_08No clue. Yeah, awebonado. It's an adjective that is used to describe someone or something that is quite silly. Somebody that is awebonado is a silly goose. Oh whimsical person.
SPEAKER_11Tabin would be a synonym for that.
SPEAKER_08Awebonado, yes. Our dear Awebonado. The second phrase that my lovely husband chooses for us is Apretar cachete. Apretar cachete, yes. What it means to apret cachete, what does it feel in your heart, in your soul?
SPEAKER_06In my heart, it feels like you're a predator that needs to go to this sewing shop to get some crochet materials. Hmm.
SPEAKER_11Since there's a lot of eggs down there, is it the is it the Spanish version of the cloaca?
SPEAKER_08Uh no, okay not. Yeah. Literally means to squeeze or tense up your products. Ah.
SPEAKER_10Oh.
SPEAKER_08Apretar cachete means to scamper away, to run, to flee the scene. If there's something going on that you don't want to be participating in, you are going to apret our cachete. So apret cachete. Let's get away from here.
SPEAKER_06So, for example, if you're sewing but you really want if you're a predator that's sewing but really want to be crocheting, you uh preter cachete to the tour.
SPEAKER_07Sure, absolutely. Yes, yes, always, yes. Sorry, tutorial.
SPEAKER_08And the last one, the last word for us uh is cafite. Catfishing, catfishing, that's what I think.
SPEAKER_06That's what I yeah, I think we are of like mine.
SPEAKER_03I I thought that it had something to do with coffee.
SPEAKER_08No, bless your little heart.
SPEAKER_10Or his many girls.
SPEAKER_08Yes, or the pimp. It's a pimp, yes.
SPEAKER_11Bringing it back to our earlier conversation before we started recording. Yes, indeed. Indeed.
SPEAKER_08So now you know. If you is if you are a lady and you see your cafiche a hueonao, you better apret our cachete.
SPEAKER_05Yes. And for all you furs out there that now want to know what we were talking about before we started recording, let us know.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, let us know. We'll we'll fill you in after that. All right, yes.
:21 Furry News
SPEAKER_11Okay, well, now it's time for our intrepid news reporter, TikTok. What have you got from the furry news for us?
SPEAKER_09So, firstly, felicitations to feline personas. There's a new cat in count. There's a new cat in town recently discovered by animal researchers in Bolivia. And as reported by NBC, uh Lepardus Tilcayo, or the Tilcayo tiger cat, is slender and spotted with rounded ears. It's smaller than a typical house cat and lives in the Bolivian for uh Yungas, where cloud forest and the Andes Mountains meet the Amazon basin. So the cat was brought to an animal sanctuary by a man living near Laos Pez, who thought it was a kitten house cat at first. When the minute mischievous monster got to be too much for the man, he realized it was wild, so he brought it to the shelter. There an animal science, Ziggy, please help me. Thank you. Who leads the Bolivian uh feelet research and conservation program suspected the cat might be a novel species and did some genetic testing. Sure enough, the tiny tiger cat was found to be a new one, the first new cat species discovered in the last 100 years.
SPEAKER_11Wow. Whoa, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_09And yes, as one might imagine, the cat's habitat is declining in South America, you know. So, you know, furs, feel free to create something around this tiger cat, raise awareness, have some fun with this feisty feline.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, rule 34, please.
SPEAKER_03No, it's always it's always nice to have new kitties. It's always nice to have new kids.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, pet. I wouldn't pet this one though. I would.
SPEAKER_03I would, but that's just me.
SPEAKER_09So next up, there's been another Kerfluffel in New Mexico, this time over their new state park mascot, Ranger Rio the Coyote. Yes. Instead of reaching out to the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of artists who live in New Mexico, the State Parks Division contacted a group Sci everyone. Yes, New York City firm that uses AI art. After being lambasted on social media across the board by artists, furry artists, and pretty much everyone else, the department doubled down on their decision and had the AI drawing retouched. And the retouching appears to be a combination of further use of AI with some human intervention. Now, it's it's unknown at this time how much of the fee was for the commission, but you know, it seems to me that between the initial cost and the subsequent retouching, I gotta believe it would have been far less to simply hire a real artist in the first place. Absolutely. Yeah. For sure.
SPEAKER_08If it's not done by a term with Gemini.
SPEAKER_09But let's do something fun. Well, the cat was fun. Yes. So finally, on September 10th, 2026, Cosmo magazine published an article titled. Yes, animated foxes are actually kind of hot. Woo-hoo!
SPEAKER_11Something the furries have known for a very, very long, very long time.
SPEAKER_05Sometimes it takes a while to realize that we're right.
SPEAKER_09Yes. Uh to pull some excerpts from the article which talks about various animated foxes and their sexy, wily ways. Every so often I'll have an intrusive thought of Zootopia's Nick Wilde condescendingly saying to his co-buddy Judy Hops, it's called a hustle, sweetheart. Listen, if somebody called me sweetheart, I wouldn't normally swoon, but there's something so fun about seeing Nick push Judy's buttons, you know, it just made me absolutely smitten. And my unreasonable attraction to this charming green-eyed scammer is partly due to mainstream influence, Hollywood's decades-long push of its hot box agenda.
SPEAKER_10Robin Hood was oh my god. Fantastic Mr. Fox. Oh yes, Robin, oh yeah. Robin Hood got me though. I mean, his his teasing ways and and his uh you know, his just sly kind of you know slick uh mannerisms and stuff. He was just so hot.
SPEAKER_09Oh yes. I mean, you know, foxes are sly creatures, um, you know, then natures that are fiercely independent, they're playful, incredibly smart. Uh, but anime animated foxes are sexy as hell, isn't new? Uh the movies and TV execs in La La Land discovered that animated foxes could be hot decades ago. It all started back in 1973 when Disney's film Robin Hood portrayed the title character as a fox.
SPEAKER_10Yep.
SPEAKER_09Yep. And Wes Anderson's fantastic Mr. Fox was a double whammy. Not only did the ultimate silver fox, George Clooney, voice the lead character for the animation, but Mr. Fox himself was a smokeshow. Yeah. Maybe it was the way he wore that marigold corduroy suit, or maybe it was how selfless and generous he was. But together it was all hot as fuck. And Zootopia is set to return for a third movie, so more Nick Wilde. And as someone who connects with Judy's kinder, optimistic, and hardworking nature, seeing her fall for Nick all while putting their differences aside makes me want my own fixer upper fox.
SPEAKER_10So he's he's the bad boy with the heart of gold.
SPEAKER_09Yes, so since I am nothing but another casualty of the hot fox agenda, I'm confident that I'll be able to spot them soon. And what I do, I'll have Hollywood to thank for it. Yes, you will. He will. And we've also had a photo from the article composition of various animated foxes. Uh so, and but many people have pointed out Robin's Hood hit Robin Hood's hand is touching Fox McCloud's knee.
SPEAKER_10Oh no. Oh no. And right in front of Nick Wilde's junk. Right?
SPEAKER_08Denerve.
SPEAKER_03No, that's just the tip of his tie.
SPEAKER_09Yes, it is. And that's the news for this one.
SPEAKER_06So who is that one on the right? The one with the knee being touched? I don't recognize it.
SPEAKER_10Fox McLeod.
SPEAKER_08Fox McCloud for Star Fox. Star Fox, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Star, okay, okay, okay.
:03 Confused Taebyn
SPEAKER_11Okay, uh Taban, is there anything that you didn't understand?
SPEAKER_06Are you confused about anything? Um, two things. One, before we started the show, so again, all you furs, um apparently there is some really neat stuff that happened before the show, so you're gonna have to write us in now and send us money. Um but uh so Rain said schmeckle, and I am confused about that. Okay. Rain, what's a schmeckel?
SPEAKER_10Uh a schmeckel is is uh a schwanztucker. Ah, okay. Oh, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yes.
SPEAKER_10Holy senores it up for me. Look between your legs if you're uh of the male persuasion, and you will know what one of those is. You will see a schmeckle. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Or a schwant thumbtack? Why is that okay? I I I'll I'll think about that.
SPEAKER_03If you have a thumbtack down there, Tabin, that's wrong. That's very radical hell.
SPEAKER_06Maybe that's why they keep telling me to go to the hospital.
SPEAKER_03Yes, that could be.
SPEAKER_08That's the worst brilliant solid ever.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Um the other thing that I've done.
SPEAKER_10This is why this show is not for kids. Yes. Right.
SPEAKER_06Florida got it right the whole time. That's right. Um, why is it that a gum drop is a drop of a gum, but a gum shoe is not a shoe of a gum.
SPEAKER_11But it is a shoe of it's made of it's a gummy rubber. That's why it's called a gum shoe.
SPEAKER_06But it's not a shoe of a gum. Well, that's true. Yeah. See, I I think they miss I think they missed what they were trying to convey right there. So I'll just stop right there. Okay. Fair enough. Fair enough.
SPEAKER_11You know, a gumshoe is an old uh 50s uh private investigating. Yeah, right. Yes.
SPEAKER_10Well, actually, even before that. It's before the noir era.
SPEAKER_03I mean, oh, that's true. Yeah, that yeah, yeah, definitely. I mean, also known as a dick, but that's another story.
SPEAKER_11Yes, a private dick. A private dick, yes. All right, so now we're gonna get to our upcoming events.
unknownUpcoming events!
SPEAKER_11So we highlight our cons and events that are taking place between our episodes. If you have a local event gathering or meetup that is not included in this list, which we source from furrycons.com/slash calendar. If you want that event announced on our show, send it to us at uh barelyfurricasting at gmail.com, and we will add it to this section. Be sure to include the name of the event, the dates, and the location and times if they apply. So, with that, here are the upcoming events between this episode and our next one. And I have not pre-read these, so I'm going to probably fumble all over them. All right. December, December already. See, I fucked it up already. September 19th through the 20th in Cleveland, Ohio is First City 2026. It's uh September 25th through the 27th, and also through the 29th, we have Furry Takeover, which goes to the 27th in Fontana Dam, North Carolina, and then we have Fur Calvadance taking place in France. Uh that's September 25th through the 29th. September 30th through October 4th in Urbach, Germany is H-Con. And yes, I still have visions of a bomb.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Oh Lord. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Yep. October 1st through the 4th, we have five four cons going on.
SPEAKER_07Oh my cow.
SPEAKER_11Well, actually, we have five. So we have the Alamo City Furry Invasion, which takes place in San Marcos, Texas. That goes through the 1st through the 4th of October. That same weekend, the 1st through the 4th of October, in Hickory, North Carolina, is Carolina Fur Fair. Then we have in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Michigan Anthro Weekend, October 1st through the 4th. The first through the 5th is Possum in Gloucester, UK. And the second through the 4th in Allison Park, Pennsylvania is Furry Weekend. Furry Pennsylvania. Hang on. It's Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend. Not to be confused with Furry Weekend Western Pennsylvania or Furry Weekend Pennsylvania Western, which are three different different cons. I don't even know if they have those or not. Yes. And then we have Party Along with Anthro Indonesia 2026 taking place in Folly. It's October 3rd through the 4th. And those are the upcoming events. And I want to point out something. We took a lot of heat at the Furlandia for moving our con to Mother's Day weekend, which happens to be the same weekend as Furry Weekend Atlanta. And we took a lot of heat for how dare you try and compete with Furry Weekend Atlanta, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But I just read you five cons that are taking place on the same frickin' weekend. So and some of them are closer.
SPEAKER_10It's not like we did that they wanted to do.
SPEAKER_03No, it's definitely not something we wanted to do.
SPEAKER_06I I think that's I mean by competing, I don't think they mean they're in competition. I think it just means like well, they have pinning at the same time.
SPEAKER_11Right. But I mean, you know, Hickory, North Carolina is closer to San Marcos, Texas than Portland, Oregon is to Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta, Georgia. Yeah. So if they can have cons at the same time, so can we.
SPEAKER_03So let me just say, let me just say that there are people who have already said that I always go to furry weekend Atlanta because it's such a wonderful place. But because Portland is my home and Firlandia is my home con, we're going to Firlandia instead. Yes. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_10Well, and that's that's me. I I really, this was the first con uh Hostel was the first con I'd flown to. And I was super nervous the whole time taking Rain with me to uh to there. I mean, I I packed the head and his tail in my carry-on so that they wouldn't get squished or you know, messed up, and then I was nervous that my luggage with the rest of my suit might not make it. So,
:16 Ziggy Lost The Luggage
SPEAKER_10but I mean everything turned out alright, but it was it was still kind of nerve-wracking for me.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, the airline didn't lose our luggage.
SPEAKER_10I did. Yeah. Ziggy lost her luggage, but that was lustuling. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Okay, wait, wait, yeah. We need to know about Ziggy lost your luggage.
SPEAKER_08How did that? I left it in the car. I forgot to take it down off the car. I bet.
SPEAKER_10It was the luggage with all my medicine in it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_10Did you get it back? Yes, we did. Oh, good. Okay. After about an hour and a half of Ziggy going all the way back to the airport and kind of hunt down the driver. So he got it. Okay. The company was fantastic about tracking him down. Ziggy got it back. It was not a big deal.

:23 Movie Review
SPEAKER_00the link to help support the show becoming a reality.
SPEAKER_10Right now we have a movie review with Chitaro.
unknownYay!
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry. That was kind of funny. Um, yes, I do have a movie review, as a matter of fact. Um uh I know that just a few episodes ago I reviewed one of the predecessors of this movie, but this week is the Ice Age movie called Dawn of the Dinosaur from 2009. It's streaming on Disney Plus. So, so in the Ice Age aspect of movies, this is the third movie of the name Ice Age. Yeah, this one's actually kind of interesting, you know, because it's got the same cast. So you got Ray Romano and John Lewizamo and Dennis Leary, and and of course, uh, from the last one, uh, you had Queen Latifa becoming um uh a mammoth, and so she's also part of the cast of this uh as well. And so um it it's rather interesting because there's a lot of interesting things that happen in this movie. The first is, you know, how they always all the Ice Age movies uh have start with Scratch, you know, and him trying to find his well, acorn. But as he is trying to get this acorn, he comes across a female which looks exactly like him, just a different color. And um and he ends up chasing her around and stuff like that. And and what's really funny is he finds out that this that this female is actually a flying version of himself.
SPEAKER_10So that would have saved him a lot of problems throughout the uh first two movies.
SPEAKER_03I know, right? But unfortunately, he you know, it was funny because she she pulls out her I don't know why I'm showing you this. I'm because it's an audio podcast. Yeah, it's audio, sorry. Her wings, she pulls out she pulls out her wings, yeah. She pulls out her wings and or well, they weren't really wings, they're they're kind of like on a glider where where they kind of have those little things. A sugar glider or a flying square. Yeah, and so she yeah, and so she's starting to to slow down because they're falling from the side of the cliff. And and and scrat does this thing where he pulls all of his arms out and says, I have those too. And it's like, oh no, I don't. So, but um, but this episode of of Ice Age, or in this uh version of Ice Age, uh the Dawn of the Dinosaur, two things happen in this in this movie. One, the subplot of this movie is that you know, in the last movie, Manny the Mammoth meets Ellie the Mammoth, and they end up becoming kind of like an item. Well, in this movie, they start right off the bat, poof, Ellie is pregnant with um a mammoth. So yeah, so we all know what they did between movies. And so they played board games. They played board games, that's right. Thank you, Scuru. Um, and so so it's funny because you know, Sid, which is the sloth, is kind of stupid.
SPEAKER_02You know?
SPEAKER_03Just a little bit. Yeah. So he goes over because Manny was showing uh Ellie um this beautiful playground that he made for for their child and stuff like that, right? And and uh Sid goes over there and he starts looking at and Manny says, Don't touch anything. Well, as he's walking away, going, okay, fine, whatever, you know, uh, because Diego said, I I'm gonna I'm gonna leave because I need to figure out what's going on in my life, and I'm gonna leave. And and uh and Sid goes, Oh no, don't leave, and and so he starts walking off, and then he ends up falling into a crevasse and finding these three eggs. Now, uh the ironic part is that these three eggs turn into being little miniature T-Rexes. And so Sid being Sid, as soon as he finds these eggs, you know, he was he was sad because he's going, Oh, Manny and Ellie are having a baby, and that's like, you know, blah blah blah, and Diego's left, and I have nobody. And so he finds these eggs and he all of a sudden decides to call himself mother. And so he carries these eggs around until they hatch, and then these T-Rexes attach themselves to him. And uh, but they they end up finding out that they have a mother, and the big gigantic mother comes and tries to uh take them away, and and she ends up absconding Sid and taking him down to the land down under where all of the dinosaurs are hidden, you know, so to speak, and um and stuff. And so so basically that's the dawn of the dinosaur thing, because they actually introduce you to the dinosaurs that are hidden and stuff like that, and there's all sorts of fun things that happen, but there's this one character, and it's hard to say what this person is. It it could be a weasel of some sort. The person who voices this weasel is Simon Pegg, and the weasel's name is Buck. But it's funny because um, you know, the the aspect of Buck, um, when I was reading the IMDB trivia stuff at the end, says that Buck is akin to Captain Ahab, uh, to this big dinosaur that they're trying to chase after, like Ahab is with um Moby Dick. And so so this movie has a couple of little uh subtexts of of Moby Dick like esque in there because you know uh Buck is trying his best to try to kill this big T-Rex that's going around frightening everybody and stuff like that. And so they think he killed them, and it's the very end of the movie he's gonna go along with the the group, and he ends up staying because he needs to stay with the big T Rex and try to kill him and stuff. So it was rather fun. But you know, this movie was rather interesting. There was a lot of funny things, as always, with the Ice Age movies and stuff. Um, you know, yeah, the saber tooth tiger um does Diego does tell. To go off, but then he comes back because he he heard some of their group was in trouble and he needed to go help them and stuff like that. But you know, it it was a pretty good, a pretty good movie. The funniest part was when Sid finds these three eggs and he starts playing around with the dinosaurs, they end up start playing the song, and you're gonna laugh when I say this, but they started playing the song Walk the Dinosaur. So I know that's not the name. Yeah, they know that well, Queen Latifa was the one that actually sang was singing it in Ice Age, so she re-recorded it in her vocals and stuff, so it was kind of fun. But overall, this movie was kind of fun. Uh it basically um mostly still centered around the main cast, you know, the you know, Manny and Sid and Diego, and now Ellie, of course. But it did have some new elements, and and of course, they I think they spent a lot more time in this movie with doing stuff with Scrat because he found a love interest, so to speak. Right. And so it was kind of fun, and and how it all kind of been was put together was kind of fun too. The animation is like superb because, of course, this is like 2009. If I can recall back to when I was talking about this movie before, you know, Ice Age, uh the second Ice Age movie, the animation was really better than the first movie because the fur, you could totally see the fur moving, and when the fur gets wet and it does all the things that fur wet fur does. So the movie is actually progressing in terms of animation style and everything like that. So, in terms of what I would say, in terms of my rating for this movie, I would give it four and a half chirps. It was really good. It probably, in all honesty, was probably just a little bit better, a little bit of a step up from the last movie. Overall, it it gives you the feeling of family and warmth. In this one, they actually kind of like have a lot more togetherness and making sure they're doing things together as a group rather than individual things like they did in the other two movies. So it's kind of fun. I I enjoyed it. So uh again, Ice Age, Dawn of the Dinosaur from 2009, streaming on Disney Plus. I I would recommend it because it's part of the the whole entire genre of Ice Age movies.
SPEAKER_10And I looked it up. Buck is a one-eyed weasel.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, one-eyed weasel. Well, you know, they don't know. Yeah, right. Uh adult uh kind of joke of they don't really tell you what these creatures are when they create them. And and it it was apparent that he could have either been a weasel or a ferret, either or because of how elongated he was and stuff like that. Um and and some of the things he did, like he got himself wet and he like spun himself around in circles to dry himself out, so that was kind of fun too.
SPEAKER_10As with as Ziggy will tell you, all ferrets are weasels. So
:22 Math With Taebyn
SPEAKER_10not all weasels are ferrets. Yeah, they're all the same family.
SPEAKER_11All right. Uh Chabin, do you have any math for us this week? I do. But before you go there, I have to ask you, do you know why you should always wear glasses in math class?
SPEAKER_06I think it's because, from what I've heard, it's because of the division. Yeah. But it also adds a lot of style.
SPEAKER_11Oh no, it's it helps with division, that's what it's for.
SPEAKER_06Well, good. I'm glad we're on the same page there. Yes, yes, yes. Oh, I'm supposed to say things now.
SPEAKER_10Yes, that is your math, it's your math. It's your segment, yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_06So this is thanks to Rain for this request, actually. So, Rain, this is for you. And all you other things for Rain. Um, so I'd like to talk about these things called solitons. Solitons?
SPEAKER_10Sounds like solitons. Actually, they did have a soliton thing in, I think it was Voyager or Next Generation, which is kind of why I got interested in this when I saw it and thought the math was really fascinating.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and so this is actually more on the side of physics. I will be talking about math, but it's more of a physics thing, actually. So these things call solitons, I'll tell you what they are in a minute. Um, they're sometimes called the quote unquote rule breakers of physics. These are waves, for example, in the ocean. They're water, they're not just white, I'll talk more about that later, but um, these are things that maintain the same shape, speed, and height. So a soliton is a well, let me use some bigger words for a second. A soliton is a self-reinforcing solitary wave packet that maintains its shape while it propagonates at a constant velocity. So what this means is that they're extremely quote unquote stable in that they maintain their height, shape, and speed for a long distance, even after they've collided with other waves. So it and you think of a of an ocean, and the waves in the ocean, they can do different things. I'll talk about that a little bit more in a minute. Even after hitting a wall, they so they go and move, and even after they hit a wall, they reverse direction, but they still maintain the shape same shape, speed, and height. So this word, the name soliton comes from the solitary nature of the wave, that is, it's a lonely wave that travels a long distance on its own, and the on part of soliton matches the names of particles like electrons or or protons. So, okay, so let me tell you a little bit about the history of this thing. It's an interesting history, actually. This phenonema fun I can say this. This phen that word, mononama. D BDB. Yeah, this D BDB was first observed in 1826 by Italian engineer and mathematics Giorgio Bidon. But no one actually kind of paid attention to his findings. Eight years later, 1934, engineer and navalist John Scott Russell observed this in the Union Canals Union Canal in Scotland. So here's what happened. He was on a horseback on by the side of the canal and was curious by this. There was a nice smooth wave of water that went through the canal. And it just kept going. And it went at the same speed, the same shape, the same height. It didn't dissipate. It just kept going and going. So he rode along with it for at least a mile, um, and then eventually it escaped escaped him, but it just kept going. Like it didn't, it seemed to defy laws of nature that it just kept going forever. He was able to reproduce this wave actually in experiments, and he called it a wave of translation. And after this, people were taking notice. I mean, after all, as I say, this seemed to defy the laws of wave propagation and fluid dynamics. Dun dun dun. In 1895, Dutch mathematicians Diedrich Kortweg, I mispronounced that, and Gustav de Vries formulated an equation, which is called the KDV equation. And for those of you that know a little bit of math terminology out there, this was a certain nonlinear partial differential equation. But the point is that this was an equation that describes the motion of a soliton. So keep in mind that this is not just a normal wave. If you think of a wave in the ocean or something, you think of there's two things that can happen. It either kind of when it gets closer and closer to the beach, for example, it gets bigger and bigger and starts getting steeper, steeper, and kind of crashes down on itself. Um so it then it's done. The other thing that can happen with a wave is it's just if you think way afar out in the ocean, it kind of moves along and then eventually just dissipates. So eventually they they disappear. But this is a wave that actually exists. You've probably seen this before, actually. It's a wave that just keeps going. It doesn't get bigger, bigger, it doesn't slow down, it doesn't dissipitate. How can this actually exist? Because as I say, it seems to defy like all the physics and stuff. How can this even be something that seems to go on and on and on forever? And in fact, water solitones deep in the ocean can actually travel for two days and across 250 miles. So again, this seems to defy the the like like physics. So how can these exist? So well, as I mentioned before, a wave has a tendency to either steepen, get bigger and bigger, and steepen and crash down on itself, but then also on the other hand, a wave can be smaller and have a tendency to disperse. In a soliton, these two tendencies are in complete and 100% balance with each other. And so you don't get either of the things, they just keep going and going and going and going and going. And that's really amazing. And in fact, this KDV equation that I talked about in that equation models that behavior, which is actually pretty cool, and more evidence that math is really great, that it can model things like things that can exist, it seems. So, of course, solitons eventually dissipate. Eventually, these are called dissipating solitons because you know, just there's randomness in nature and everything. So eventually that balance that I just talked about kind of goes out of whack. Now, so I've been talking about water solitons, but this whole idea of kind of an almost infinitely going-on wave exists in other places too. For example, it's found in fibro optics, so light solitons can travel thousands of kilometers down a fiber optic cable. So for that reason, they can carry information over great distances without uh degradation. So this is this is actually useful for us.
SPEAKER_10Um, they've been seen without it, you wouldn't be hearing this podcast right now.
SPEAKER_06That is a true thing because you are right now, Rain and Zege, all you furs out there are very far from us. So solitons, thank yay, solitons, for bringing us this podcast. So now solitons have to give us money because we just plug them on the show. And they've also been seen and studied in other places like magnets, biology, and cause cosmology. They're very interesting things. I would like to leave you with John Scott Russell's original 1834 description of his observation. Are you ready for the original description? Oh yeah. He says, I was observing the motion of a boat which was rapidly drawn along a narrow channel by a pair of horses when the boat suddenly stopped. Not so the mass of water in the channel which he had put in motion. It accumulated round the prow of the vessel his words, not mine, around the prow of the vessel in a state of violent agitation, then suddenly leaving it behind, rolled forward with great velocity, assuming the form of a large solitary elevation, a rounded, smooth and well-defined heap of water, which continued in course along the channel, apparently without change of form or diminution of speed. I followed it on horseback and overtook it, still rolling on at a rate of some eight or nine miles an hour, preserving its original figure, some thirty feet long and a foot to a foot and a half in height. Its height gradually diminished, and after a chase of one or two miles, I lost it in the windings of the channel. In the month of August 1834 was my first chance to do an interview with that singular and beautiful phenomenon, which I have called the wave of translation. And that concludes my math for the weekend.
SPEAKER_10Yeah, what struck me about it was like there's a lot of things in physics where the math is just totally guessing. And what kind of struck me about this was when I when I first saw about it is that the math is totally in agreement with yes, this does happen. It was it was kind of cool because like I'm so used to it being like, well, this is just a theory.
SPEAKER_06I have so many things to say about that, and so I won't say it now. Maybe I'll talk about that in another math. There you go.
SPEAKER_10Well, I mean, I I just I found it really interesting. I thought you'd find it interesting. I thought the furs would find it interesting. So that's why I suggested.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so I okay, I won't say anything more other than that. For example, there's this thing called the Navier-Stokes equation, and this is a huge thing, and something huge just happened with it in the last two weeks, and it has to do with fluid dynamics and describing these things. And it's like so much drama is right now in the math. Okay, right. I'm going to stop right there, but just say there is a lot of exciting drama out there in the math world if you like that, all you furs out there. So get into math, do the math, be part
:08 Shameless Plugs
SPEAKER_06of the drama.
SPEAKER_11All right. Well, that takes us up to our shameless plugs. And uh, I want to plug Royal Highness, we're the host enhanced with cannabis products, then watch an action show, then review it while still enhanced. Currently, they're reviewing the Netflix series Beowulf, Return to the Shield Lands. Hilarity ensues as this series is not particularly good, so it gives them all sorts of things to make fun of. So tune in if you like to laugh. Also, there are some things for BFFT that should be plugged, our merch at bfftdashry.com and our telegram chat where you can chat with all our other staff. Rain, what have you got to plug?
SPEAKER_10Well, as always, 3D-Who, the monthly Doctor Who podcast, where we discuss all things Doctor Who. That's me and Barely and my buddy James from England. And uh, this coming episode is all about the second Doctor. And the next one will be about the third Doctor, because we're just kind of going through the early doctors and yeah, kind of revisiting some of the some of the you know Doctor Who lore that probably a lot of today's watchers of Doctor Who have no idea about it. Um, so uh then of course there's also my uh channel on YouTube, Raccoon, where from now until Halloween all the videos are going to be about spooky urban legends, creatures, and cryptids and stuff. So uh you can find that at youtube.com forward slash at rain raccoon. Please give it a watch and subscribe because it would really help me grow this channel and bring y'all more spoopy content. I also have all my social media and project links available on my Linktree, L-A-N-K-T-R dot double e forward slash rain raccoon. Awesome.
SPEAKER_11Chitaro, what have you got to plug if I don't know already?
SPEAKER_03No, I I I don't have very many things to plug, but Forlandia 2027, Ready Furry One will be held on 7-9 May uh 2027 uh at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. I made sure I said that properly. Yes, yes. Um, volunteer applications are now available on our website, which is forlandia.org. And just in case, it's f-ur-l-a-n-d-i-a.or-g. And pre-registration has also started. So if you're looking to want to be a part of Forlandia 2027 at our new venue, then please register. Currently, the price is $60 for the whole weekend. In addition, we're going to be doing an anthology book for our charity. It will be sold at Furlandia 2027. And there will be a collection of writers from like furries like you guys that are listening to this, that if you're ever interested in wanting to write something and have it published, go to our website, look up our anthology, and get information about it. The only caveat is that you have to write a story based on our theme, ReadyFurry 1, which is of course based on Ready Player One, the book, not the movie. So please check our website out for particulars on that. Also, just as a quick early advance, uh, we're gonna be opening dealer and artist applications around the 15th of October. So pay attention to our social medias, pay attention to our website. There will be all sorts of information for that in the coming weeks.
SPEAKER_11I also would like to point out that uh we hope to have the room block open sometime in November so that we can start booking their rooms. For sure. Yeah. And that's all I have to plug. Ziggy, what have you got to plug?
SPEAKER_08As usual, if you see a green haired raccoon running around in 1490, please don't keep you me. Give me your sprite, give me your money. I need the points, please. Thank you. Alright.
SPEAKER_09TikTok. Uh well, with no get out the float, I'll see about making it to AW. You are not gonna go to AW, huh? Well, um, on the fence, you know, just budget reasons, that sort of thing. So if anyone needs, actually, here's a plug. If anyone needs a database developer, give me a shout. There you go. There you go.
SPEAKER_11Plug yourself, absolutely. Yes. Yes. Tabin. Something new for a protegen. Yes. Tabin, what have you got to plug?
SPEAKER_06So if any of you for have listened to this all the way to the end before you know exactly what I'm gonna say, because I'm gonna say it again really fast, maybe or we'll see what goes on. So I have a link tree, L-I-N-K-T-R-D-E forward slash Tabin, or you can get a link to all my things. But if you don't want to go there, you can also go to my Instagram. I don't use as much, but it's TabinPup. I have some work merch on Fourthwall, Tabin-shop.forthwall.com. I have t-shirt, mugs, stickers, more to come, blah blah blah. And you should make sure to check out my YouTube with um all the various many things I do, such as there's a crispy chicken saga, I have good math videos where people have learned have actually passed their math classes, as they say anyway, because of me. Uh the videos. Um, there's linear algebra, lots of fun stuff about movies surface on climb bottles and things like that. There's a history of our podcast, cooking with table. You can learn how to make it make ice, uh, toast, or cook an egg, or same thing like photographies, drummies, other fun stuff. We've got more to come. I just posted something recently. I'm gonna post more stuff to you. Make sure to subscribe and look at checking out my next cons are at the Northwest in January and Vancouver in March. Doing my storytime with Tabin, Tame Seeds things well. Although Vancouver looks like they will be scrutinizing panel applications a little bit more, so I hope I get accepted. But on that note, I'll I've I've done some stuff like I'll be changing out some songs for next year's Tame Things Superdell check with blah hi check blah boo boo. Also, I've changed some out some songs for next year's Tame Sing Superdell Setlist, so come join the Panoke Bye. Okay.
